If your car has an alternator, the warning light wire connection depends on whether the alternator is fitted with an internal or an external voltage regulator. If the alternator is fitted with an internal regulator, the wire you want connects directly to a terminal on the back of the unit marked WL or IND.
With the combination of the 14 ga. fuse link, the 150A fuse link, and NO connection at note 1, two conditions exist: First, the car will be isolated from the battery and alternator by the 14 ga. fuse link, and second, the alternator will be isolated from the battery and car by the 150A fuse link. PA performance agreed with this reasoning. Jan 23, 2006 · Something is “draining” electricity from the battery. There could be something that is sucking too much battery power, and the alternator can not keep electrical output supply up with demand. A/C, electric cooling fans, after market radios and high powered amplifiers are a few things that come to mind.
The only thing I can think of that could have caused a problem is if the tag on the alternator main power lead shorted onto the alternator body and maybe crashed/corrupted/blew the ecu (non starting & Air Con light on), but then if it HAD shorted, I would have thought it would have blown the 120A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box too. That current is used to power your car's accessories, which can be anything from headlights to the electro-hydraulic lifts on a snow plow. The alternator also keeps the battery fully charged, providing the power it needs to start the car. A bigger size alternator won't reduce the load on the battery. It's main load comes from using the starter motor, and that won't change. A bigger alternator will recharge a flat battery faster of course, but the 30 amp generator does work just fine for most old VWs.
